Reliable Pin Headers

Samytronic's pin headers offer a cost-effective and reliable solution for connecting printed circuit boards (PCBs) to other PCBs or devices. The standardized 2.54 mm pitch connector is available in straight or angled configurations and is compatible with almost all counterparts of the 2.54RM family (female headers). Here you can find suitable counterparts:

Surface Finishing

All contacts are generally coated with a nickel barrier layer of approximately 1.27 – 2.5 μm before being tinned or gold-plated. Tin plating is done with pure tin. Gold plating is more complex; for a 1μ" (0.025μm) layer, the entire pin is coated. For gold layers of 3μ" (0.076μm) or more, gold is applied only to specific areas (contact surfaces) using a specialized process. These areas can be customized according to customer requirements. The rule of thumb is, the less area that needs to be thick gold-plated, the more cost-effective the connector will be.

Secure Soldering

A pin-in-hole connection is generally stronger than a pin-on-pad connection. As a result, the connector can withstand higher stresses compared to a similar connector with a surface mount. The length of the pins that engage with the PCB is 1.5 mm. This is the optimal length to ensure a good solder connection with the PCB. At this pin length, no paste is pushed out of the solder joint, ensuring the conformity of the solder joint according to IPC-A-610 standards. However, a pin-in-hole connection is not always required, especially when THR holes in the PCB are not desired. For this purpose, we offer connectors with surface-mount technology. The length of the pins in the contact area (not the solder area) is freely selectable.
